Talk about a pain in the royal you-know-what. There are new reports that say Queen Elizabeth is still at Balmoral Castle, even though a staff member at the Scottish estate has tested positive for COVID-19. While the Queen is fully vaccinated from the virus herself, she will remain at Balmoral in her private castle in Aberdeenshire as planned. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, the employee in question was sent home this past weekend following a positive PCR test. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “We have procedures in place should a member of any team get Covid.”
Earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth said that she wants people to stop being selfish and get the Covid-19 vaccine. In a video call with health leaders delivering the Covid vaccine across the UK, the Queen was asked about her own Covid-19 vaccine experience.
She likened the community spirit to get vaccinations done to the experience of the country during World War II. The Queen, who rarely talks about her own health, added: “It didn’t hurt at all.”
She said, “Well, once you’ve had the vaccine you have a feeling of, you know, you’re protected, which is, I think, very important. And as far as I can make out it was quite harmless, very quick. And I’ve had lots of letters from people who’ve been very surprised by how easy it was to get the vaccine.”
Queen Elizabeth has been joined by family members, including her son Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. Prince William and Kate Middleton and their children are expected to arrive later this month.
